History 1910's
"Whenever anything or anyone rises to greatness we always try in retrospect to find some early sign in the cosmos marking the birth of that greatness. Comets are often seen in the heavens on such momentous occasions. It may well be that the four men who founded Machinery: Frans Hall, Ferdinand Jacobsson, Arthur Lindeberg and Ferdinand Tefke, were among those in Turku who gazed upon the spectacle of Halley's Comet".
These were times of global boom, when rapidly developing industrial concerns were in need of machines. The response to this need came on 7 March 1911 when the deed of foundation of a new engineering business was signed bringing Aktiebolaget Machinery Osakeyhtiö into the world.
There were hard times just around the corner, however: the Great War and the Russian Revolution were not far off. The rule of the Czars and the once vibrant business community shattered, leaving an enfeebled economic base for newly independent Finland. The Russian market had gone, the currency had collapsed and there was no capital to be found. Any euphoria over newly won independence was short-lived, as life became a sheer struggle for existence.
